2008 Krug 'Clos du Mesnil' Blanc de Blancs
SKU: TB300/FR
Regular price $2,999.95This 1.84-hectare (4.5-acre) vineyard has been protected by walls since 1698. The vineyard is located in the heart of Mesnil-sur-Oger, one of the most iconic villages for Chardonnay in the Champagne region. The year 2008 was one of Champagne’s coolest in 14 years, and also one of the region’s least sunny in almost half a century. Rainfall was normal throughout the growing season and the summer was dry, followed by a climatic lull prior to harvest. Due to temperatures without any hot peaks, grape maturation was slow and steady. The harvest of the Clos du Mesnil took place on 18, 20 and 21 September 2008, and afforded grapes with intense freshness and elegant expression that made for beautifully structured wines, allowing the House of Krug to produce 13,160 bottles and 500 magnums (to be presented at a later date, per tasting decision). Krug Clos du Mesnil perpetuates the nonconformist spirit of Joseph Krug, founder of the House of Krug. It epitomises the House’s singular approach to Champagne making, which involves an in-depth knowledge of each plot and its individual wine, in order to create a Champagne of the undisputed quality envisioned by our founder Joseph Krug.
"This is a powerful, sensual and intense Blanc de Blancs with lots of chalk, lemon, apricot stone, walnut, flint, biscuit, toast, white grapefruit and quince. Vibrant, tight and structured. Tight bubbles and a sharp backbone of acidity. Very long and persistent, (JS, 99 points)".
