Authentically great Burgundy values are secrets you know you should keep but burn to spill, Bachey-Legros’ terrific Bourgogne being a particularly difficult secret to keep down. Few Burgs of either color priced below $35 engage our full interest in the region: purity, textural intricacy, site specificity. No short list of such wines is credible without this perennial overachiever.
The 2018 and 2020 renditions are particularly successful, more reductively intense than others. This 2022 returns to 2020 form in its beautifully punchy nose of sweet citrus and stone fruit, salt and soft vanilla, all pulled taut by Bachey reduction. This shows the seldom seen sleek, streamlined side of the vintage without sacrificing an ounce of its generosity.
