History of the Brand

Who We Are

Close friends and industry veterans Jason Jacobeit and Daniel Jung began planning a retail project together in 2017, motivated by a strongly shared passion for the wines of France’s Burgundy region together with a deep commitment to hospitality. Jung has served for many years as the head sommelier at legendary donwtown wine destination Tribeca Grill, overseeing one of the city’s deepest and most comprehensive wine programs, with a particular renown for mature and well-priced offerings.  Jacobeit serves as Wine Director of Burgundy-focused Batard restaurant since the restaurant’s opening in 2014.  During his tenure he guided its wine list to its position among the city’s most aspirational Burgundy inventories, with a particular commitment to the broad appeal and tremendous value offered by so many of the region’s wines.

Vision

Somm Cellars aims to combine a warmly sophisticated in-store experience with an exceptionally deep and diverse wine and spirits portfolio.  In addition to a Burgundy inventory among the largest in the country, our range of products attests to our awareness of and interest in interesting vineyards and lovingly made wines from many  corners of the world. Our spirits portfolio mirrors the depth and diversity of our wine offerings, with many rare and highly collectable bottles in addition to a wide selection of familiar labels.  Our ambition is to emphasize high-touch hospitality in a beautiful and broadly inclusive ambience, firmly centered on a personalized, guest-centric feel together with a wide diversity of products, both in terms of style and price point.
