A wide spread of ready-to-drink Burgundies from top domaines at best-in-country prices: Somm Cellars was (literally) created for offers like this.
The reputation of 2017 Red Burgundy has leaped well beyond initial 'refreshing, user friendly' critical consensus. At the time of the vintage's release 2013s and 2014s were still widely available, two other more-or-less classic vintages to which the 2017s were thought to pay passing resemblance.
But 2017's superiority to each of these preceding vintages now seems difficult to dispute. While both 2013 and 2014 have admirable subsets larger problems have opened for each (the sweet/sour tug-of-war with 2013, the edginess and bite of many 2014s). 2017 advances considerably both in terms of structural coherence and overall quality.
Representative 2017 Red Burgundies are like hugs from old friends you haven't seen in ages. The wines are fragrant and open and willing to an extent matched only by 2002 this century. By margin the least moody and most genial reds Burgundy has produced in the past decade.
Cheers,
Jason
