Jean-Marie’s 2008s are perhaps his completest wines this century.  They're aging brilliantly too, more about which below.

‘Champeaux’ and Jean-Marie were born for each other, both ‘wanting’ to produce the same style of wine.  Routine ‘Champeaux’ tasting notes could easily stand in for an itemizing of Jean-Marie’s stylistic priorities: alert red fruit, perfume-over-power, sleek, refined.  Blood orange and cherries are the ‘Champeaux’ touchstones wherever you find it, though no other producer centers these particulars more assertively.

An observation.  That the vineyard’s wine is incredibly approachable young for years threw me off the scent of its ageability.  Experience (not least with Fourrier’s 2008) suggests a wine that ages on balance more than concentration, though age it does.  Silkier and subtler and longer 17 years on, even if the 2022 is hard to resist today.

Cheers,

Jason
