Rare to compile lists of 20+ wines - any criteria - I'd be excited to drink from top to bottom, but here we are. Case in point: the wine tasted most recently was Bertagna's ‘Les Petits Vougeot’ for which ‘weirdly good’ lasts as our group's most memorable tasting note.
Beyond consistency there are authentically superb wines. Mugnier’s ‘Bonnes-Mares’ showed so well over dinner at Le Jardinier last year our 4-top barely spoke through the main course. Other triumphs include Cathiard, Duroché (if you know you know), Ente’s best-of-decade ‘Santenots du Milieu,’ and what I will fiercely defend as the strongest Bachelet ‘Charmes-Chambertin’ of our youngish century.
Fourrier’s at-peak, pleasure-bomb 2014s too deserve loving homes, as does Virgile Lignier’s 2014 ‘Clos de la Roche’ - one of the first indisputably great wines of the Virgile era.
A last word for Maxime Cheurlin's (Georges Noëllat) uber-pure 2014s. A few Christmases back I opened his 2014 'Échezeaux' alongside DRC's 2014 bottling of the same. DRC settled for silver that night, and by margin.
Cheers,
Jason
