Benetière's ‘Cordeloux’ issues from the lieu-dit ‘Corps de Loup’ ('wolf's body') at Côte Rôtie's southern extreme. Granite soils and 5% Viognier help account for the aromatic exuberance so routine in this bottling yet the wine's larger interest is the high tread count clothing covering the wine's hillside torque. Wolf-like inside, sheep-soft out.
Lovely 2013s here. The vintage in full survey accounts for its decade's most delicately aromatic examples: even destemmed wines seem perfumed with clusters. Like other of 2013's better wines ‘Cordeloux’ conveys real depth and intensity despite a barely mid-weight frame. A wine that speaks in a small voice yet says a great deal - just the kind we like.
Cheers,
