An observation: should 'Nebbiolo' replace 'Barbera' on the label of this Serralunga single-site the price of admission would triple in an instant. 'Barbera' of course does nothing to undermine the converging of a top producer, old vines, and prime siting in one of Serralunga’s most gifted vineyards yet the grape's ‘everyday’ connotation ceilings market price nevertheless.
The nose leads with a rich blend of red and black fruit along with the soy/hoisin note routine in this cuvée’s maturity. Lush fruit leads the palate though the finish firms up considerably, adding a sense of coordination to the otherwise powerful flavors. This might go on improving another handful of years but with so deft a melding of freshness and development why bother finding out?
The perfect foil for the first flavors of Fall.
