There are 8,000 bottles of the 2018 Bourgogne Rouge, a cuvée intended to offer consumers an affordable taste of the domaine's wines. Bursting with a rich bouquet of ripe cherries, candied peel and plums, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with powdery tannins and an open, expressive profile. - William Kelley, Robert Parker Wine Advocate
Jean-Marie Fourrier is a fastidious superstar in the Côte de Nuits firmament. From his base in Gevrey-Chambertin and with his patrimony of old vines he produces some of the silkiest fruited wines in Burgundy. They are ripe, yet exuberant and vivid, with supple tannins. They tend to feature low levels of sulfur and notably high levels of dissolved CO2 to compensate.
To augment his Domaine Fourrier wines, Jean-Marie produces negociant wines under his own name. The Bourgogne rouge is unusually, not entirely purchased fruit. Instead it is a blend of domaine fruit with some purchased grapes from the village of Fixin. It is now regularly an affordable gateway into one of the most assured and distinctive styles around. The 2018 is no exception and has a beautiful sense of equilibrium and poise to it.
Pale ruby in the glass, the wine initially offers a lifted nose of ripe red cherry and raspberry. With more air, some darker fruit comes out as well as attractive violets. The palate is superbly mineral, nicely lithe rather than voluptuous. The acidity is tangy and the attractively rounded midpalate leads into a savory, chalky finish. We're happy to offer this superb Bourgogne Rouge at the lowest price in the country, before taking into account our 3 pack pricing!
