While writing this I convinced Daniel that skimming one of these soon-to-arrive lovelies off the top would be a terrific investment in our summer selves. 2012 Raveneau: if you know, you know.
This 2012 ‘Foret’ has moved through three distinct evolutionary stages since release. In the first years post-bottling the wine displayed an almost astonishing solidity and structure. Then, by 2017 (or so), you sensed the rock-like texture softening just enough for citrus/mineral flashes to shine through the fissures.
But a bottle late last year showed a totally unexpected level of clarity and detail, as if the wine had leapt directly from adolescence to full-bore prime. Decanting, as usual, opened too many expressive avenues to follow even half of them.
Raveneau at its evergreen best.
Cheers,
Jason
