A personal favorite edition of Grand Cuvée and so especially excited to have tracked down an offerable quantity of 160ème.
This 2004-based edition tunnels that growing season's expressive best. The looked for touch of greenness here delights rather than distracts, soft mint and sage nuances that slowly emerge from the wine's pâtisserie-like richness.
160ème was disgorged in 2011. Every Krug lover has her own view on an optimal drinking window though I've always loved finding Grand Cuvée 10-15 years after disgorgement. Further maturity brings additional complexity but I prefer the the wine's sweet citrus and developing richness in tighter counterpoint. 160ème strikes just this balance today.
