The Vali di Suga estate, just north of the town of Montalcino, was first created in 1969 by Aldo Moro flew under the radar for its first few decades. Towards the turn of the 21st century, Val di Suga made several improvements, most namely of which included the purchase of Poggio al Granchio, an ideal vineyard site abundant in schist-rich galestro soils to the southeast of the town of Montalcino. Val di Suga's Brunello di Montalcino is unique in that it is comprised of Sangiovese grown on three of Montalcino's different slopes each with their own soil type. The gods smiled on Montalcino in 2013 where yields were healthy with well structured fruit allowing for long-term aging typical of a 'classic' Brunello vintage.
