Olivier Bernstein quickly rose to prominence in the Burgundy wine scene, receiving high praise from the start with his 2007 vintage. Specializing in six grand cru wines from Côte de Nuits, including selections from Gevrey-Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot, Bonnes Mares, and Clos de la Roche, he also produces three premier crus, three white wines, and a village cuvee from Gevrey-Chambertin. Production is limited due to the old vines' low yields. Bernstein, originally from a music publishing family, shifted from a corporate career to study oenology and gain experience in the industry, eventually founding his own négociant business in Burgundy in 2007 after starting Mas de la Deveze in Roussillon.
Bernstein wines, crafted by winemaker Pierre Olivier Soares, showcase a unique variety across Grand Crus with a signature Bernstein style. Characterized by their rich texture and balanced tannins, these wines are intense yet not overpowered by the new oak used. The winemaking involves a high proportion of whole bunches, gentle extraction, and controlled fermentation temperatures to maintain the fruit's freshness. After 16-18 days of maceration, the wines are aged for 15 months in barrels.
