Chateau d'Yquem, the premier producer of Sauternes, is known for its meticulous winemaking style, emphasizing precision and quality. The estate benefits from its elevated location and unique soil composition, which promotes the development of Botrytis cinerea or "noble rot"—a crucial element in creating Yquem’s signature sweet, concentrated wine.

The vineyard primarily cultivates Semillon (75%) and Sauvignon Blanc (25%), with expert pickers making multiple passes to select only the perfectly botrytized grapes. Due to the delicate nature of noble rot, yields are exceptionally low, contributing to the wine’s rarity. Chateau d'Yquem also upholds an uncompromising standard, occasionally choosing to forgo entire vintages if they do not meet the estate’s exacting criteria.
