The ‘11s here are wild, particularly if purity of fruit and intense whole-cluster expression chart high on your list of priorities.  Be warned though that they make the cruelest of blind tasting entrants, sharing a depth of floral and black tea-like cluster notes regularly leading tasters into hallowed territory.  Leroy, Bizot, Arnoux-Lachaux…

’11 marks the lowest levels of alcohol realized in Cristom’s 30 year history.  Cool, late vintages always favor the Cristom style to the point that their greatest successes nearly always come in challenging vintages.  Grab a vintage chart and invert it: a useful shorthand in choosing your next bottle of Cristom.

Entering full maturity the aromatic development on these flat-out defies comprehension.  Assemble every domestic Pinot bias you can along with a few of your staunchest Old World wine friends and settle in for the fireworks (speaking from experience).

Shared features: a delicious, pure black cherry essence and whole-cluster notes of rose petals, cinnamon, and blood orange.  Behind these, the usual smoky, cedary Cristom touches.  Finishes have lengthened considerably with cellaring and sustain the floral and tea-like echoes impressively.  All bottles direct from the winery.

Cheers,

Jason
