Many great memories of ’82 Baron.  One that stands out comes from an ’82 Bordeaux dinner celebrating Daniel’s 40th a couple years back.  Tough company that night though I smilingly recall the wine's mesquite-y, sweet fruit spilling into truffles during our main course.

The distinguishing feature here is surely the extra bit of tannin (Baron!) that sharpens and defines the vintage’s generous fruit.  Most ’82s have always seemed more vintage- than terroir-reflective.  Baron absorbs the vintage’s hedonism yet resists being overdetermined by it.  The fruit is blooded and supple, but the structure is unmistakably Pauillac.

Cheers,

Jason
