The post-2005 era here is clearly the greatest in Haut-Bailly's modern history. Prices though remain exceedingly reasonable, indeed to the point that claiming a place among the Left Bank’s pound-for-pound strongest wines seems merely obvious. Finesse, detail, and textural intricacy are the era’s watchwords and Haut-Bailly today routinely achieves an expressive synthesis typically reserved for Châteaux charging $200+ admission.
Love the 2007. The vintage’s fresh, open-textured personality shapes the style and the Haut-Bailly old-vine fruit (Merlot especially) contributes mid-palate fat and depth. Tobacco and rich espresso notes, hallmarks of the wine’s maturity, are already out in full force.
