Among the most insider-y villages in the whole of Burgundy, Arnaud & Sophie's Vosne 'Les Barreaux' isn't a wine that any longer needs offer centering. But the '21 strikes us the most dapper rendition of this cuvée to date, impressive to the point where we just can't help our Burg-loving selves.
The nose leads with plum and bluer fruit alongside the ’21 florals, the latter reaching through the expected violets into a wider Spring-y freshness. It’s real perfume, that term’s delicate and pretty associations very much intended.
The palate reveals a deeper well of fruit than the nose seemed to promise. Texturally the wine leans generous though vibrant acidity keeps the fruit dextrous and fluid. Crazy length also, in the subtle but persistent mode of ‘Reignots’ or ‘Petits Monts,’ both upslope neighbors to this gifted lieu-dit.
Wonderful stuff but not much to go around.
