Assuming the 2022 Hautes Côtes and Fixin villages we opened last night tunnel the rest of the range, here's one of the strongest vintages of Amélie Berthaut's young career.
There's a more serious feel to the wines this year and less of the usual soft, natural-ish berry fruit. It's less a 'change' than a subtle stylistic shift. The set feels like a grown up, maturer version of the kind of wines Amélie was making a half decade ago.
The wines here are always excellent early drinkers and especially so this year. Our two bottles reminded us of larger-scaled versions of Amélie's 2017s, a vintage that drank well young and hasn't had a moody moment since.
Cheers,
Jason
