The second vintage from the Hautes Côtes de Beaune beyond Auxey Duresses. The 2016 offers a quintessential Hautes Côtes character of high-toned red fruit expression, crushed wild strawberry, red cherry, along with a hint of sweet citrus peel. There's nice chalky minerality finish. The wine is simply delicious and has the weight of 2016 vintage, with great tension and finesse. Seriously good and approachable. - Daniel
This is a wine to blind your friends on, and then brag when they inevitably think it’s far more expensive than is actually the case.
This shows the perfumy and very attractive side of ‘16, the fruit profile just at the point where red meets black. The palate is lithe, ultra-pure, the wine markedly intense but sleekly packaged.. I especially love the polished feel of the tannins, doubtless the result of the vintage’s low yields combined with careful farming. - Jason
Although you will doubtless be more familiar with the fine whites that the Boisson’s turn out, we’ve selected today a most impressive red from them. Regardless of colour, when the wines are on they astonish with their combination of purity and intensity. The Hautes Cotes de Beaune is somewhat analogous to their lovely aligoté: a wine that greatly surpasses expectations based on appellation.
The 2016 Hautes-Côtes is gently reductive out of the bottle. As the reduction blows away it is replaced by a beautiful floral bouquet of rose and peony. The fruit is ripe red and crunchy, with a mix of raspberry and cherry. The palate is pure with nice midpalate weight and a crystalline sensation. The finish has a nice combination of earth and blood orange zest.
