The C-L-F revolution dates to just 2010 when Thomas Collardot began reclaiming the domaine's vineyards upon the expiration of several long-term leases. His early years glimpse a budding winemaking talent though full flowering begins with the 2014 and 2015 vintages. On their heels the 2016s emerge as the fruits of a winemaker fully in his prime.
These 2016s remain my favorite set produced here to date. ‘Hedonistic’ fittingly describes Thomas’s style as well as the choicest subset of the 2016 growing season, yet fusing the two somehow eludes too-muchness. Dramatically rich and concentrated, yes, but detailed and site-expressive too.
The 2016s here have never known a moody moment (even the grands crus were superbly expressive upon release) and continue to add layers in the cellar. A bottle of 2016 Vosne villages earlier this Summer so exceeded expectations that the friend I enjoyed it alongside immediately bought our last bottle to wreak havoc on an upcoming grand cru blind tasting.
