This impeccable Rully-based domaine is helmed by the talented Hélène Jaeger-Defaix. Her style leans toward delicacy and fragrance, expert but always understated takes on Rully’s top terroirs. They're the kind of wines that Freddy Mugnier might make if he had good old-vine plots down this way.
‘Clos du Chapitre’ is always served last at the domaine. Pride of place traces to subtlety and lingering flavors rather than power. The nose could be mistaken for 2017: wild strawberries and crushed raspberries, cloves and cold limestone. The fruit really warms up as the wine moves along.
At this price point we cross our fingers for drinkability and hold out hope for real deliciousness. We level-up here with a bottle well worth building a meal around. Roasted cod with mushrooms and a red wine sauce would be just right.
