Jean-Marie’s 2022 reds have never known a moody moment, a claim that any who attended our 2022 Red Burgundy tastings last Fall will heartily second.

The 2022 difference - both growing season and in-glass results - traces to even ripening.  Many producers have shared the view that this ripening by gradual degrees rather than fits and starts has profoundly shaped the vintage’s style.  As a result the better 2022s possess a textural cohesiveness suggestive of generous wines from a cool vintage rather than admirably fresh products of a hot one.

As we shared last year the Vougeot ‘Petits Vougeot’ and Gevrey ‘Combe Aux Moines’ are the value sweet spots this year.  This Gevrey achieves once-a-decade purity of fruit and that citrus-kissed finish universal to Fourrier at its most persuasive.

The 2017s have since release been Jean-Marie’s modern benchmarks.  Add 1/3 more fruit weight and we arrive at these 2022s.

Cheers,

Jason
