Daniel and I tasted the full lineup of these superb 2019s together a couple weeks back and left the tasting delighted to discover such soulful, deeply expressive wines. Since her 2013 debut the wines have become markedly more aromatic, more distinctive. In 2019, the standout is the stunning Corcelette, offering up a freshly perfumed, red-fruited and delicate personality. The texture is gentle and soft, and shapes the wine beautifully. This manages to be irresistibly delicious and ‘serious’ simultaneously. - Jason
After training in Oregon and at Montepellier, Mee Godard established her own domaine in the Beaujolais in 2013. Organic conversion is underway in the vineyards, and in the winery, winemaking is resolutely classical… The result is pure, elegantly structured, traditionally styled wines, with the substance to age but also considerable upfront charm.
The 2019 Morgon Corcelette is a real success, unwinding in the glass with notes of sweet berries, spices and loamy soil, framed by a subtle patina from a new foudre that will be used for this cuvée going forward. Mee Godard is crafting assured and stylistically assertive Morgon from hallowed ground. The Corcelette site is made up of South-East facing granite rich slopes and Godard’s vines are about 70 years old. Her wines are about 50% destemmed and fermented in cement. Here you find more pliant tannin, richer mid-palate weight and slightly darker fruit profile than is typical of a producer like Foillard for example.
The 2019 Corcelette is riveting with a full ruby color in the glass and abundant, cool fruit emerging from the glass. There is fresh plum, black cherry and hints of tea on the nose. The palate is plush yet it seems to bounce with energy. The tannins are velvety and far from insignificant. A pleasure already, but not without a sense of seriousness and the intimations of great aging potential. We’re very pleased to offer this wine at the best price in the country.
