I must admit that this is one of the most exciting offers that we have sent out so far. This talented young couple makes a most exciting village cuvée from Vosne-Romanée called 'Les Barreaux'. The plot is sandwiched between the Cros Parantoux and the Petits Monts, which explains how this wine can be so serious. This is such a terroir-driven wine that displays lifted but compact black cherry, Asian spice, fresh pine, and intense chalky minerality. The wine has a solid backbone structure with riveting acidity, and everything in its right place. Kudos to Les Barreaux =) . - Daniel
An excellent location, minuscule production, and a dynamic up-and-coming couple means that the discovery factor here is ratcheted up to 10. A&S’s parcel in ‘Barreaux’ is just a stone’s throw from the mythic ‘Cros Parantoux.’ And while Parantoux will set you back $2000 or more, the cost of admission here is a small fraction of this.
This wine has real perfume; I mean that not in the sense of it being intensely aromatic, but in that word’s more delicate and pretty implications. There is a considerable amount of whole cluster that melds beautifully with that unmissable purple fruit and spice profile that typifies great Vosne. The vineyard’s upslope location lends a persistent limestone impression and roots you memorably in place. What a stylish villages. - Jason
Just above Cros Parantoux and aside Petits-Monts you will find Arnaud et Sophie’s blessed plot of Les Barreaux. The site is special indeed and its character is admirably well-channelled by this husband and wife winemaking team. These up and comers are making wine that is already incredibly assured and impressive.
With 50% whole cluster and 30% new oak this cuvée is remarkably well-balanced; there’s Vosne- and whole-cluster spice balanced by rich red and black fruit. The oak is practically imperceptible, instead adding textural sheen. The nose has abundant floral perfume and the palate has vivid upslope energy unusual for a vintage where many wines lack verve. This is the only US availability and while we are offering 6-pack pricing for collectors (or those with great thirst), the quantities are nevertheless limited. Don’t miss out on this wine at the edge of Cros Parantoux and past the border of greatness.
The 2018 Arnaud et Sophie Vosne-Romanée Les Barreaux is tremendously well balanced for the vintage, and really shows the talent of this young couple... It’s deeper, with more mineral drive, than the otherwise very good Sirigue wines. There is tremendous intensity and a nice balance of the sweet, ripe fruit. A bit on the dark side fruit-wise, but with a vivid backbone of acidity and minerality. - Steen Ohman, Winehog
