2017 is a great success for Olivier Leflaive and the house's able winemaker Franck Grux. While the scale of this important négociant house sometimes wins it short shrift from Burgundy collectors, the truth of the matter is found in the glass. - W.F. Kelley, Robert Parker Wine Advocate

Many of you know how strongly I feel about these wines; I will carry this further in asserting that since 2014 they compete favorably with many of the very top domaines in Burgundy. The range has improved steadily in the last decade with very good wines progressing now to the realm of the genuinely exciting.

They have become increasingly more reductive, the '17s offering particularly compelling evidence of this stylistic evolution. They encapsulate the sleek muscularity and pixelated fruit quality possible in the vintage. This is very Narvaux, with lemongrass and citrus, and a mineral presence that feels insistent rather than suggested. Superb value here. - Jason

The wines of Olivier Leflaive live unjustly in the shadow of Domaine Leflaive (which Olivier co-managed between 1982 and 1994). They regularly perform admirably in blind tastings, as anyone who reads Neal Martin’s notes from the annual Burgfest will know. The winemaking by Franck Grux is at its highest level of achievement since Olivier's retirement in 2010. The 2017s are particularly worth highlighting, with their fine balance, judicious application of new oak and gentle reudction.

The Olivier Leflaive Narvaux issues from two different lieux-dits high in Les Gorges de Narvaux and in a plum parcel in the Narveaux Dessous directly above 1er Cru Genevrières. East facing and steeply-slanted with little top soil, the wines are incisively mineral and finely structured.

The 2017 is a fine examplar for the vineyard boasting crisp green orchard fruit, white flowers and salted almond along with a touch of flinty reduction. The palate is medium bodied with a pillowy mouthfeel girdling a racy mineral core. The finish is floral, elegant and well-defined, lingering with an impression of salinity and honeycomb. We're offering the sharpest prices in this country for this gem.
