Vincent Dureuil can make a strong claim to rank as the finest producer in the Côte Chalonnaise, but even though I am a long-time fan of his wines, I was unprepared for just how good his 2017 collection is. Low yields mean that there isn't much wine to go around, but its quality is some compensation for the tiny quantity… Indeed, this is quite simply the finest set of young wines that I have ever tasted from Dureuil, and I couldn't recommend them more emphatically. - William Kelley, Robert Parker Wine Advocate
There is a star amongst the dramatic hills of Rully, due south of the Côte de Beaune, and it is the Domaine Dureuil-Janthial. Here Vincent Dureuil continues to produce both whites and reds of stunning clarity and character. Today we are happy to present this emblematic cuvée of the domaine from the superb 2017 vintage at the lowest prices in the country before the 3 pack discount.
The 2017 Rully Blanc is produced from 50+ year old vines from 4 lieu-dits in the village: La Martelle, Chaponniere, La Bergerie and Le Meix Cadot. Bunches are pressed whole cluster into barrique some one fifth of which are new and spend a year in wood before racking into tank to spend another ~6 months aging. Minimal sulfur is added along the way and the wines are always pure and tense.
This cuvée shows beautiful herbal lemon on the nose with a delicate lacing of pear and white flowers as well. This is certainly a lithe and mineral rendition of Chardonnay, the palate showing just a touch of orchard fruit atop a linear, savory backbone. There's a hint of attractive bitterness along with bright acidity. While this is showing attractively already, the tightly wound core suggests that this will continue to age beautifully. This is a wonderful introduction to this great Rully domaine and offers really impressive complexity at a friendly price point.
The 2017 Rully Blanc is superb, unfurling with an enticing bouquet of meadow flowers, apple blossom, fresh green pear and subtle hints of nutmeg. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied and satiny but precise, with a bright, nicely concentrated core that's quite tight-knit despite the wine's youthful charm, concluding with a long, mouthwatering finish. It would be a mistake to underestimate its aging potential: a 1992 that concluded our tasting, derived from the same four parcels that produced this 2017, was still in its prime. - William Kelley, Robert Parker Wine Advocate
