Maxime Magnon’s silken reds are Languedoc benchmarks, particularly for fans of the ‘New Languedoc’ clarity+refinement formula.  Yet by margin Maxime's most interesting wine is his lone Corbières blanc, a wine transcending its appellation and varietals via a strongly reductive - and highly personal - style.

‘La Bégou’ issues from one of Corbières' highest-altitude parcels.  The thick cloud of tangerine reduction gives terrific aromatic intensity, pulling the sweet citrus and mountain herbs taut.  Salt and honeycomb nuances complicate the nose with time though it's the hypnotic reductive intensity rather than individual flavors that impresses strongest.

The palate is wonderfully available and direct, linear though not lean.  Following other of the world’s best reductive whites we’re given a wine of both generosity and (immense) energy.  Certain of our tasters noted affinities with Richard Leroy’s style, others with Magnon’s nearer neighbor Domaine Gauby.

Cheers,

Jason
