*we are thrilled to offer this distinguished cuvée at the lowest price in the country

It had been years since tasting the 2015 Coche-Dury Meursault and either I’d forgotten how much I loved this wine or, alternatively, the interim has proven more beneficial than expected.  Either way the strong showing dovetails with the ‘sweet spot’ drinking that Coche’s villages so often settles into 7-10 years post-vintage.

The most striking feature here is the quality of the reduction, which somehow feels perfect.  True, it’s not the thick, honeycombed, attack-dog reduction of father Jean-François, but in ’15 Raphaël Coche seems to brilliantly articulate the less-but-more reduction that centers his updated vision for the Coche style.

I find this among the strongest villages of Raphaël’s tenure.  Reduction animates every inch of the wine, lighting up the nose and pulling the palate as taut as a string.  The rich, lemon custard midpalate and salt-and-stones finish too are splendidly intense.  An absolute joy to drink today.

Cheers,

Jason
