Lowest price in the US (by a long way...) - 8,000 magnums produced
“It is quite simply one of the most magnificent Champagnes I have ever tasted.” -- Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 100pts
“A striking wine, the 2008 entirely lives up to its already elevated reputation... I was determined to hold the wine to the highest possible standards, but it surpasses even the prodigious 1996 and surely ranks as the finest Salon since at least the 1970s. In short, this is a Blanc de Blancs that admits no argument” -- William Kelley, Robert Parker Wine Advocate, 100pts
I recently had a chance to open the 1971 Salon, and it was a pretty incredible experience. I was blown away by the longevity of this champagne. Salon can be magical in the 60s and some of the 70s, but there’s nothing extraordinary in the 80s in my humble experience. However, I love the consistency of the Champagne since 1990, and it’s certainly impressive that they have only released 8 vintages of 20 up to 2009. It’s of course an expensive bottle of wine, but already one of the most collectible items in the wine world now. Not only will this be a magical experience to open but if you are considering the price of 1996 Salon 5 years ago e.g., this is an excellent investment for sure. - Daniel
Salon is the singular Champagne. It is one cuvée issuing from one varietal from one village and one house in one vintage, here the greatest of recent memory and here in only one format, the magnum. This is the exemplar for Salon.
Salon has always been made the same way, from the same 1ha parcel in the Jardin de Salon and 19 other parcels (totalling 5ha) of Chardonnay in Le Mesnil. They have been working with the same growers for over a century. The quality is sky high and the selection is beyond exacting; vintages that are less than ideal are not fit for the Salon name and are consequently passed over.
“It was not an easy harvest, the quality was good only after a super, super deep selection of grapes. Because the quality was so good but the quantity was so much smaller, we both [Michel Fauconnet, Chef de Cave] agreed to produce only magnums." - Didier Depond, President, Salon.
This is the pinnacle of Champagne and it's already a legend. We are lucky to have been aggressive in acquiring what is ultimately a miniscule parcel. This is a rarity to begin with and it's destined to become inordinately difficult to find- don't miss this opportunity to acquire yours at such favorable pricing. Please note that these bottles are pre-arrival.
