Jean-Marie Fourrier’s 2022s showed out in several tastings connected to last month’s Burgundy Campaign.  Across-the-board success aside, a couple genuinely high points this year merit singling.

The Gevrey ‘Combe Aux Moines’ is one, Vougeot ‘Les Petits Vougeot’ another.  Each locates a degree of purity and refinement we find perhaps one vintage in ten. The 2017s have since release been the modern Fourrier benchmarks; add 1/3 more fruit weight and slightly softer finishes and we arrive at these 2022s.

‘Les Petits Vougeot’ always strikes me as distinctly Chambolle-like, at times surpassing even the Chambolle ‘Gruenchers’ as the most delicate wine in the cellar.  It's also the most aesthetically available of the premiers crus produced here.  There's plenty material for cellaring yet I tend to find the sorbet-like red fruit, floral intensity, and citrus-kissed finish of youth at least as enjoyable.

For those who prefer their Red Burgundy pretty rather than powerful.

Cheers,

Jason
