Regular price $27.95In 1966 Raffaello Stianti began acquiring parcels of the Volpaia estate, an original founder of the 13th century Chianti League. The inspired printer and bookbinder Stianti gradually acquired more and more plots of Volpaia until honoring his daughter Giovanella with the estate as a gift upon her wedding with Carlo Mascheroni in 1972. The Volpaia estate today includes over 100 acres of vineyard in the Volpaia commune, just north of Chianti Classico's original town of Radda, renowned for its cooler microclimate and stony soils. Tuscany in 2017 featured record temperatures which were fortunately balanced by Volpaia's higher elevation vineyards with cool nighttime temperatures. Tannins are fully ripe in this bottling and the power of the growing season is on display.
