SKU: B192
Regular price $39.95Having passed through seven generations of the family, Amelie Berthaut took over Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet in 2013. The combination of her father’s Fixin based domaine with her mother’s Vosne-Romanee vineyards means that Domaine Berthaur-Gerbet now covers a total of 18 hectares, with prime parcels spread across the Cote de Nuits including the Grand Crus of Echezeaux and Clos Vougeot.
Amelie initially went to study agronomy at the prestigious engineering school Sciences-Agro in Bordeaux, however after an internship at Domaine de La Tour du Bon in Bandol she converted her degree to one in oenology. After graduating she worked at a winery in California as well as New Zealand’s Crater Rim estate, where she says she really began to think “about winemaking and the changes that could be implemented at Domaine Berthaut”. The Domaine is now almost totally organic – only extreme pressures of mildew may alter this approach. After fermentation in cement tanks, a delicate extraction and a slow, reductive aging process in their cold cellars, Amelie’s wines have a traditional Fixin quality. By taking a non-interventionist approach, critics are singing the praises of the refined wines Amelie is producing, helping to stimulate international recognition for this small appellation.
