The Humbert brothers , Frédéric and Emmanuel, have wine in their blood and land in their hearts. Men of few words, but always fair and profound, they alone embody good peasant sense, or rather winegrower. The Humbert Frères estate has always been family-run, the two brothers, cousins of the Dugats, have been in charge of it since 1989. They cultivate 7 hectares of vines around Gevrey-Chambertin, exclusively as property. The plot is remarkable and the plant material, mostly old vines (over 40 years old) is not left out. If the Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru is the flagship of the estate, the Humberts also have the chance to exploit very qualitative 1st crus, such as Poissenot (adjoining the Estournelles, Lavaux and Clos St Jacques). The vinifications are traditional, destemmed grapes, punching down and regular pumping over over rather long vatting. The wines are made for laying down and express themselves marvelously after a few years of ageing.
