Monk still refers to the monastic roots of Heyl zu Herrnsheim, which date back to 1561: At that time, monks from Worms were looking for the best locations for their wines and acquired new vineyards of outstanding quality in Nierstein. Located in the Mathildenhof for a long time, the winery came into the possession of the Lauteren family in the 18th century, until it was finally taken over by the von Heyl family in 1909. The wines from Heyl zu Herrnsheim achieved their excellence under Peter von Weymarn, who in the 1980s from the Brudersberg monopoly vineyard
produced one of the world's best Rieslings. He is considered a pioneer of organic winegrowing. Since 2006, the Meyer family has continued this tradition with their passion for wine. With winemaker Felix Peters, she leads Heyl zu Herrnsheim with the highest quality standards.
