Representing one of Volnay's most traditional winemaking, family's the Lafarge name has become synonymous with harmonious, restrained and intricate wines. Certified biodynamic, Domaine Michel Lafarge is rigid about their vineyard practices hoping to create transparent wines with the consistent capability of long-term aging. Sadly, Michel Lafarge passed away last January with over sixty vintages under his belt but the winery is great hands as his son Frédéric and now his granddaughter Clothilde are dedicated to carrying the torch to its well-established high standards.
Beaune is home to a dizzying number of premier crus, 42 to be precise. 'Grèves' sitting on steep slopes facing due-east has long been celebrated as one of the best of these elevated vineyard areas. Amongst Lafarge's 'Grèves' holdings are their oldest across the board, just a few years off from the century mark, which lend to a powerful wine with a suave, poised quality.
