Up until a couple of decades ago it was extremely rare to see individual vineyards of Meursault labeled on bottles save for those of the celebrated row of Premier Crus. Jean-Philippe Fichet is a firm believer in the lieux-dits, or named vineyard sites, which fall outside of the Premiere and Grand Cru but merit their own distinction beyond the quality of generic appellations such as Meursault. Fichet focuses solely on white wines and is carefully in a long, slow fermentation and elevage thought to bring out wines of precision, intensity and remarkable ageability. Sitting just below the slope of Meursault's Premier Cru 'Charmes' is 'Gruyaches' which typically yields Fichet's richest expression of Meursault without forfeiting their signature piquant energy.
