There are many parallels between the wines of Burgundy and the Nebbiolo-based wines of Piemonte's Langhe. Shortly after completing schooling in biology and management, Giulia Negri found herself in Burgundy on a trip to explore the region's legendary status within the wine world. Upon returning home to La Morra in Barolo, she felt captivated to illustrate what she had observed and translate it to the lens of Piemonte. La Morra, already known for its more elegant, lifted styles of Barolo due to its prevalence of calcareous marl soils reaches another level of gracefulness in the hands of Negri who sources from some of the region's highest elevation sites. In addition to the native grapes of Piemonte, Negri has also boldly planted Chardonnay and Pinot Noir higher up on the hills from some of her precious Nebbiolo.
Negri's 'La Tartufaia' centers around Nebbiolo grown in western-facing vineyards of the Serradenari cru which is complemented with 20% Nebbiolo grown in the hallowed Brunate cru. Named for the truffle fields planted by her grandfather where the vineyards now stand, Negri crafts a wine with dimension, fine-grained tannins and a silky texture.
