Jean-Luc Thunevin served as one of the faces of a revolution in Bordeaux, the 'garagiste' movement which begain the early 1990's. Here, minute production from small parcels particularly on the Right Bank began to offer alternatives to the centuries-long tradition of large Châteaux being the only avenues for fine wine consumption. Thunevin's 'Virginie de Valandraud' debuted in 1991 as a second wine to the banner-waving 'Château de Valandraud'. This is classic, medium-weighted and expressive Saint-Émilion centered on two-thirds Merlot and one quarter Cabernet Franc. 2014 had quite the surprisingly fantastic September after a gloomy summer threatened the crop ultimately yielding wines of balance and softness.
