2011 Michel Lafarge Volnay 1er Cru 'Les Mitans'

Representing one of Volnay's most traditional winemaking, family's the Lafarge name has become synonymous with harmonious, restrained and intricate wines. Certified biodynamic, Domaine Michel Lafarge is rigid about their vineyard practices hoping to create transparent wines with the consistent capability of long-term aging. Sadly, Michel Lafarge passed away last January with over sixty vintages under his belt but the winery is great hands as his son Frédéric and now his granddaughter Clothilde are dedicated to carrying the torch to its well-established high standards. 

Sitting on gravelly limestone soils, 'Mitans' is a premier cru vineyard just south of the village of Volnay. Opposed to some of the more iron-rich premier crus in Volnay, 'Mitans' from Lafarge have a wonderful gracefulness and poise reflective of the domaine's delicate approach. The 2011 displays the lift present from the vineyard with savory, spice-driven palate.
